Augusta, Ga. – As technology evolves, hackers are becoming more sophisticated in their attacks targeting sensitive information of financial, research, and government agencies. As a result, many wonder whether there is ever such a thing as perfect security.
Computer forensics expert Rob Lee says there are ways that companies can protect their information from these advanced persistent threats (APT). During a free program held on Thursday, Aug. 12, from 9-11 a.m. in 170 University Hall at Augusta State University, Lee will use anonymous, in-depth case studies to demonstrate how hackers gain access into these networks.
Lee is the curriculum lead for the SANS Institute’s Digital Forensic Training and a director for MANDIANT’s Professional Services group. He is also the co-author of MANDIANT’s threat to intelligence report, M-Trends: The Advanced Persistent Threat. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a founding member of the 609th Information Warfare Squadron, the first U.S. military operational unit focused on information operations. Later, he became a member of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations where he conducted computer crime investigations, incident response, and computer forensics.
Admission is free and the public is invited. For more information, contact ASU’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at 706-737-1672.
