ASU Unplugged


ASU Unplugged presents an encore acoustic performance by the three-man Australian band Sick Puppies on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m.  in the Jaguar Student Activities Center Ballroom. The Sick Puppies’ are known for their song All the Same which was adopted for the Free Hugs Campaign. This performance is sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and 95Rock. ASU students get in the act


Augusta, Ga. – Movement and vocal exercise will be the focus of a masterclass presented by the Aquila Theatre Company on Thursday, Jan. 28, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in 242 Washington Hall. Augusta State students will experience the requirements and disciplines of working and performing in a physical theatre company. Students will also explore the imaginative and physical resources that the company uses in order to create its own unique theatrical style. Read the full story

Music at the Morris features ASU professor


Augusta, Ga. – Dr. Rob Foster, professor in Augusta State University’s Department of Music, will present a concert in the Music at the Morris series on Sunday, Jan. 24, from 2-3 p.m. He will present the music of the shakuhachi, a Japanese bamboo flute, in traditional solo pieces, which have been passed down from Japanese Zen monks, as well as improvisations and original compositions. Universal Letter Writing Week


Augusta, Ga. – Gone are the days when people looked forward to receiving letters in the mail. The era of texting, tweeting, and communicating via electronic devices has virtually eliminated personal mail correspondence. In observance of Universal Letter Writing Week, Jan. 8-14, people are encouraged to put down their electronic devices and hand write letters during this week. PSA: Forensic anthropologist discusses role in Hussein trial


Augusta, Ga. – Augusta State will present forensic anthropologist Dr. Michael (Sonny) Trimble during the university’s annual Life of the Mind series being held on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 6 p.m. in the Jaguar Student Activities Ballroom. Dr. Trimble spent three years in Iraq examining and excavating the mass graves from the 1988 Anfal Campaign—Saddam Hussein’s effort to exterminate the Kurds. His findings were used as key evidence against the former Iraqi dictator during his trial in 2006. For more information on this free event, call 706-737-1444.
