Augusta, GA. – The annual A Day for Augusta State University campaign to raise friends and funds for the university exceeded its goal by more than $4,000 as the campaign drew to a close on Friday, Oct. 9, with a total of $539, 016. The campaign, which began on Aug. 11, raised money for scholarships, faculty development, and academic support programs that could not be funded by state dollars.
The campus drive, themed Taking Care of Our Own, was led by ASU professors, Drs. Hubert and Debra van Tuyll, and raised $153,861 surpassing its goal of $135,000. A challenge gift of $10,000 from First Citizens Bank to benefit the Hull College of Business sparked the beginning of the university’s community campaign, led by Mr. John Bell, attorney with the Law Office of Bell and Brigham, on Sept. 15 during the President’s Club Luncheon.
“We are extremely grateful for the participation in this year’s A Day campaign. This campaign speaks volumes of not only the faculty and staff at ASU, but also of the Augusta community,” says Ms. Helen Hendee, vice president for ASU’s development and alumni affairs.
The campaign total was announced at the ASU Alumni Association’s annual alumni barbecue that culminated the A Day campaign.
