Augusta, Ga. – The race is on! The A Day for Augusta State University community campaign began on Sept. 15 during the President’s Club Luncheon with a $10,000 challenge gift to benefit the Hull College of Business.
Highlighting the annual A Day campaign will be a race, a presentation by a noted author, health screenings, music, and Wonder Woman. The fundraising and friend-raising activities will begin with the Jaguar Jaunt, a 5K road race, on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 8 a.m. Beginning at the Maxwell Alumni House on McDowell Street, runners and walkers will travel through the historic Summerville area and the ASU campus. Prizes will also be awarded in several age groups. The entry fee is $15 before Sept. 29 and $20 on the day of the race.
Adam Shepard, author of Scratch Beginnings: Me, $25, and the Search for the American Dream, will be the featured speaker in the Russell A. Blanchard Distinguished Lecture Series on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 2:30 p.m. in the Jaguar Student Activities Center ballroom. Admission is free.
On Wednesday, Oct. 7, ASU’s Department of Nursing will hold its annual Health Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Christenberry Fieldhouse. Free services will include blood pressure checks, cholesterol screenings, body fat analysis, bone density, and more. Flu shots will be available and reservations for the vaccine are now being taken. On Thursday, Oct. 8, a Gala Concert featuring baritone Washington Isaac Holmes, a local artist who has performed throughout Europe, will be held in ASU’s Maxwell Theatre at 7:30 p.m. The concert, hosted by ASU’s Department of Music, raises money for scholarships for students in the music department.
The A Day community campaign culminates on Friday, Oct. 9, with a Phi Kappa Phi presentation and the annual Alumni and Friends Barbeque. The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at ASU will present Wonder Woman Against the Nazis! Facism and Feminism in Comics 1941-1985 at 10 a.m. in 170 University Hall and admission is free. Later that evening, the Alumni and Friends barbeque will kick off at 5:30 p.m. in the D. Douglas Barnard, Jr., Amphitheatre.
