A Day campaign receives $10,000

Augusta, Ga.-The community campaign of the A Day for Augusta State University—an annual campaign to raise funds and friends for the region’s public university—kicked off today at the annual President’s Club luncheon, held at the Augusta Country Club, following the successful end of the campus campaign that exceeded its goal by more than $14,000 totaling $148,682 to date. The campus campaign was led for the second consecutive year by Drs. Hubert and Debra van Tuyll, professors of history and communication, respectively.

During the luncheon, Mr. Phil Wahl, city president of First Citizens Bank and an ‘87 alumnus of the institution, surprised the audience by making a $10,000 challenge gift to the campaign in support of Augusta State’s Hull College of Business.  The oversized check was presented to Mr. John Bell, ‘69 alumnus and partner in Bell and Brigham, and by Mr. Wahl and Mr. Kelley Mobley, senior vice president of First Citizens.

“We are extremely grateful for this gift to the A Day campaign,” said Ms. Helen Hendee, vice president for development and alumni affairs.  “This gift is not only an investment in this university but an investment in our community, as our students go on to become successful leaders and business partners.”

The A Day community campaign kicks off today with a goal to raise $400,000, bringing the total campus and community goal to $535,000. The campaign concludes on Friday, Oct. 9, with the annual A Day celebration and alumni association barbecue.
