Augusta, Ga. – The campus at Augusta State University will be charged with excitement, fun, food, and games as new and returning students are welcomed to ASU for the fall semester. Beginning Monday, Aug. 17, the annual Week of Welcome will kick-off with What’s the Scoop? from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Jaguar Student Activities Center Breezeway with students learning about student and campus organizations and making ice cream sundaes. Programs scheduled during the Week of Welcome include:
Aug. 18
Recess and Cookout. 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Flag Pole/Sports Field. Students will take part in recess games including dodge ball, tug of war, and kick ball.
Aug. 19
Buffalo Bingo and Wing Special. Noon-2 p.m., D. Douglas Barnard, Jr., Amphitheatre. ASU’s resident cowboy, Professor Michael Searles, will again be the bingo caller for this game that includes buffalo wings and prizes.
Aug. 20
ASU’s Next Top Model. Noon-1 p.m., JSAC Breezeway. Faculty, staff, and students will model the latest in collegiate fashions as Joyce Jones, vice president of student services and dean of students, serves as emcee.
Lip Sync Contest. 1-2 p.m., JSAC Breezeway. Students will showcase their talents as they lip-sync to the hits.
Guest speaker, Merrill Norton. 7-8:30 p.m., JSAC Ballroom. Dr. Norton will present information about the effects of alcohol on the brain.
Aug. 22
ASU’s Day of Service. 8 a.m.-noon, Augusta Canal. ASU students will assist in the canal cleanup.
