Augusta, Ga. – Giving of oneself to make the community a better place is what Dr. Shirley Jezowski, director of social work in Augusta State University’s Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Social Work, hopes to instill in her students as they perform volunteer services at area community centers this month.
Students will be working with senior citizens at the Sandhills Community Center on Thursday, June 18, and preparing and serving meals to the homeless at the Garden City Rescue Mission on Monday, June 22.
“We don’t want this to be just another hands-on experience for the students,” says Dr, Jezowski. “We want them to leave these centers knowing that they have what it takes to make a difference in their communities. These projects open up a whole new venue of practice that they have not before thought about.”
