Augusta, Ga. – President Barack Obama’s nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court would make her the nation’s first Hispanic Supreme Court justice.
According to Pedro Hoyos-Salcedo, associate professor of Spanish at Augusta State University, Sotomayor’s nomination has pros and cons. While he feels that she has not always made decisions in the best interests of the Hispanic community, he does see how her nomination is good for Hispanics.
“Hispanics are a minority in government, so it is a good thing that minorities are now being taken into consideration,” he says.
