Managing your allergies and asthma

Augusta, Ga. – Itchy and watery eyes, coughing, and sneezing are just some of the signs that allergy season is here for many Americans. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, Augusta has been named among the top ten most difficult cities to live in for allergy sufferers.  The foundation also ranks Atlanta as being one of the Asthma capitals in the country.

As we continue into the spring season, Dr. Charlotte Price, chair of Augusta State University’s Department of Nursing, says there are steps allergy and asthma sufferers can take to help control their symptoms and maintain a healthy life.  These include knowing what triggers your symptoms and avoiding them, keeping a detailed diary to help identify what causes your symptoms to worsen, dusting and vacuuming to control the amount of dust mites in your home, keeping your windows and doors closed to prevent pollen from entering your house, and taking the medications prescribe by your health care provider.

For additional information on this topic or to arrange an interview with Dr. Price, call Danielle Harris, media relations specialist, in ASU’s Office of Public Relations and Publications at 706-737-1876.
