Augusta, Ga. – In today’s economy many families are finding different ways to save money when it comes to buying necessities such as groceries. Auctioneers in northern states have begun hosting public grocery auctions. The grocery items are bid on and then auctioned off to the highest bidder.
“As household budgets shrink, consumers may reallocate the grocery list to basic staples and less meat (steaks, etc.). Auctions may work for these more “luxury-related” groceries such as steak (where demand is down),” says Mark Thompson, Cree-Walker Chair of Business Administration in the Hull College of Business.
