Augusta, Ga. – The Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts in Pensacola, Fla., has selected Mr. Tom Nakashima, ASU’s William S. Morris Eminent Scholar in Art, as their 2009 Switzer Distinguished Artist. Accompanying the honor is an exhibition of his works, which will be on display through March 13. Read the full story

In honor of Black History Month, Augusta State will host various events inspired by our country’s African-American heritage. The celebration will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 2:30 p.m. in 170 University Hall with a presentation on The Black West by Mr. Michael Searles, professor in ASU’s Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy. Augusta, Ga. – Film Attack, a film series sponsored by Augusta State University, will be held on Friday, Jan. 23, at the Sky City restaurant in Augusta. With only two shows, the first session will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the final airing will start at 10 p.m.
This series features over 10 films produced by local independent filmmakers. These films have not been rated and may contain adult material. For more information, contact Augusta State’s Department of Communications and Professional Writing at 706-729-2416.

Augusta, Ga.- Authors Leonard Todd and Angus Woodward will be featured during the 19th annual Winter Gathering of Writers on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in 170 University Hall.
Leonard Todd is the author of two books of nonfiction, Carolina Clay (2008) and Trash Can Toys & Games, and two young adult novels Squaring Off and The Best Kept Secrets of the War. A former Fulbright Scholar, he now lives in Edgefield. Read the full story

Augusta, Ga. – The Knox School of Accountancy in the James M. Hull College of Business was dedicated Tuesday, January 13, at Augusta State University in a 4 p.m. ceremony in Allgood Hall. Taking part in the ceremony was Dr. Marc Miller, dean of the Hull College, ASU President William A. Bloodworth, Jr., Mr. Charlie Anderson, chairman of the ASU Foundation, Mr. Jim Hull, for whom the Hull College is named, and Mr. Boone Knox, chairman of the Knox Foundation. Read the full story
