Augusta, Ga.- The annual A Day for Augusta State University campaign to raise friends and funds for the university exceeded its goal by more than $3,000 as the campaign drew to a close on Oct. 10, with a total of $538,700. The two-part campaign, which began on Sept. 16, raised money for scholarships, faculty development, and academic support programs that could not be funded by state dollars.
The campus drive, led by Drs. Hubert and Debra van Tuyll, raised $157,949 surpassing its goal of $139,000. The community drive, led by Mr. Phil Wahl, ASU alumnus and senior vice president for CSRA Community Banking at Wachovia, also raised $380,751. Those who contributed to the community drive include ASU alumni, local businesses, students, and friends of the university.
Mr. Wahl says with the current tough economic environment we are living in, exceeding the A Day goal speaks well of both the community and the university.
“Seeing the community and the ASU staff, faculty, and students accomplish a goal in this trying economy, this shows the impact as well as the appreciation the university has in the community,” says Mr. Wahl.
The campaign total was announced at the ASU Alumni Association’s annual alumni barbecue that culminated the A Day activities. For more information, contact ASU’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations at 706-737-1759.
