Augusta State University will now be among more than 150 universities to implement Connect-ED, a service that uses the internet and telephone to notify users of emergency situations.
”Connect-ED will be replacing the current emergency notification system. With the new system, we will be able to send email, phone, and text messages simultaneously. The old system only allowed us to send out a text message,” says Jasper Cooke, director of Public Safety.
The new system will allow administrators and public safety personnel to send personalized voice and text messages quickly in the event of an emergency.
“The only time this system will be used is when there is a serious incident or issue on campus,” he says.
Chief Cooke says that faculty, staff, and students can preload their information into the system by logging onto their Pipeline account and, through Elroy, signing up for the Jaguar Alert. The system will go live at the beginning of fall semester.
