The A Day for Augusta State University annual fund drive will begin with an A Day Volunteer Breakfast on Monday, Aug. 11; but the actual campus campaign will kick off on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Fall Convocation at 8:15 a.m. in the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre. The campus and community chairs of the A Day campaign will participate in the program, introducing this year’s A Day theme: Ten Little Reasons That Make A Big Difference.
“This year’s theme encourages all to focus on their 10 little reasons of why they should choose to support A Day and Augusta State University,” says Michele Ellington, director of Annual Giving. “Whether we are faculty members or staff members, we are all a part of ASU. We are all influenced by the students and each other as we go about campus every day. Sure, the focus of A Day is a time to give a financial gift to the institution, but we also want it to be a celebration of all the little things that make this university a great place to spend every day,” adds Ms. Ellington.
This year’s A Day campus campaign will be led by co-chairs, Dr. Hubert van Tuyll, chair of the Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy, and Dr. Debra van Tuyll, associate professor of communications. The campus goal is $135,000.
Last year, the first student campaign was conducted, and its success prompted a second campaign to be added this year. Several Chunk of Change locations will be located across campus during September and October, and students will be encouraged to toss in their pocket change to support A Day. The goal is $6,000.
The community campaign will be led by ASU alumnus Phil Wahl, senior vice president for CSRA Community Banking at Wachovia. It will kick off at the President’s Club Luncheon in September. The A Day campaign will culminate on Oct. 10 with the Alumni Barbecue, where the total of the combined campaigns will be announced. The overall goal of the A Day for ASU campaign is $535,000.
Donations to the campaign can be made on a restricted or unrestricted basis. Unrestricted funds are used where the need is the greatest and funds projects such as faculty development programs, equipment, technology and construction projects, employee events, scholarships, and more. Restricted funds are used to fund specific projects or activities specified by the donor.
